From the director of the acclaimed Bronson, Valhalla Rising is a somewhat similar affair but in an entirely different setting. Swapping a brutal English prison for an equally brutal battlefield in medieval Europe, the film sees a viking on the loose and causing substantial mayhem along the way. There’s a lot of violence along the way, and it’s fairly unforgiving, but sadly there’s little going on beneath the surface which holds the film back.
