Retelling the early years of Germany’s terrorist group the Red Army Faction, The Baader Meinhof Complex does require some knowledge of historic German events to get the most of it, but with sleek production values and superb acting, the action-thriller is another example of Germany’s emerging prominence in cinema.

Nominated for a Best Foreign Feature Oscar, fans of world cinema will be adding another German language film to their collection after a big resurgence that also brought the likes of Black Book.
