Come the last day, it’s fair to say the festival had caught up with us. Heading out of town for BBQ at The Salt Lick before catching our last film in the afternoon, there was just one act on our hit list for the last day.

Headlining the huge free-to-enter Butler Park outdoor stage, after playing to the small Red 7 backyard a couple of years ago, it’s fair to say Childish Gambino has made it.

The rapper has found a far wider audience than just hip-hop fans, his lyrics referencing pop culture in a smartly timeless manner. Part of a huge nationwide tour, a narrative ran through Childish Gambino’s Because The Internet section with older material saved for the last 30 minutes. It was a medley of tracks to finish which proved to be that was the height of the night.

And with that, SXSW Music 2014 was over. Just one show for the final day was was very un-SXSW but it’s safe to say we got our fair share of music in over the last few days. We’ll be back next year, there’s nothing else like it here. Not in the whole world.
