With its reputation growing and growing, SXSW 2012 is set to be the biggest ever, across each of its interactive, film and music fields. With things kicking into gear before the officially scheduled start of March 14th, Jay-Z will have already rolled into town, performing some sell-out (we mean commercially not in terms of tickets) promo event though there have been exciting looking fan-driven events too.

As it has grown and grown, commercialisation was always going to happen for SXSW, similar to the entertainment industry’s take-over of the once comic book-focused ComicCon, though with the official showcases and unofficial day parties kicking into gear from tomorrow, there’s still more than enough for real fans to enjoy too.

Once a much more industry-centred event, thousands of music lovers and bands alike will be flocking in from all over the world to catch 101 “next big things” across the city, making the tough choice of who to see from a schedule that offers up seemingly limitless acts.

We’ll have daily blogs from who we’ve seen with Delta Spirit, Friends, Howler, Beach Fossils, Tennis and White Rabbits all on our to-do list, but trust me, there’ll be many many more than that bombarding our ear drums over the coming days.

FAN THE FIRE is a digital magazine about lifestyle and creative culture. Launching back in 2005 as a digital publication about Sony’s PSP handheld games console, we’ve grown and evolved now covering the arts and lifestyle, architecture, design and travel.
