Listen To More… Two Door Cinema Club

By Sam Bathe on 8 Jul 2009

Out of Bangor, Northern Ireland, despite being featured on Kitsuné’s Maison vol. 7 compilation and being booked for festivals across the summer, Two Door Cinema Club somehow remain unsigned. But don’t expect that to last for long. The recent Kitsuné interaction also brought a single release on the cool French electro label, and while this time around ‘Something Good Can Work’ might have been a small scale event, next year don’t be surprised if their track is the sound of the summer.

Two Door Cinema Club’s indie pop electronica is effortlessly uplifting and makes you want to get up on your feet and dance. Their jerky riffs are a sound far beyond the clichéd indie band bogging down the industry at the moment, Two Door Cinema Club though are on the rise, and with a refreshingly entertaining EP under their belts, the future is looking very bright.

Listen To More… We Have Band

By Sam Bathe on 24 Jun 2009

Coming together to form We Have Band after each quitting their job at label EMI, Thomas, Dede and Darren have the kind of back story you couldn’t write in today’s music climate of failing majors. Locking themselves away early last year to concentrate solely on their music, the three-piece, in which Thomas and Dede are also married, embarked on their new career with more than a handful of wonderful tracks to make up for a relative inexperience on stage. Soon gathering a lot of early buzz after non-stop shows across London’s club nights and late last year being featured on Kitsuné’s Maison Compilations and releasing single ‘Oh’ on trendy indie label 50 Bones, the future is looking very bright. Listen To More… Deep Sea Diver

By Sam Bathe on 10 Jun 2009

After being selected a Beck’s new live guitarist, Jessica Dobson’s has at last got back on track. Her venture Deep Sea Diver now have their debut EP out and a huge support tour for Conor Oberst in the offing, things are looking rosy again. Their music is akin to fellow Long Beach band Cold War Kids, though their slower, more sultry work, and with delightful lyrics; “here comes the snow, watch out or icicles”, you’ll be drawn into Dobson’s world in an instant.

By Sam Bathe on 3 Jun 2009

Alongside neighbours in Costa Mesa, The Japanese Motors, Tijuana Panthers are filling in for the Strokes while the New Yorkers take time off. The Panthers bright, sparky and jerky indie rock feels refreshing as the underground music scene has headed towards electro. Show the rest of this post…

Listen To More… Manchester Orchestra

By Dan Hopchet on 27 May 2009

Check some of Manchester Orchestra’s music. Theyre not exactly brand new or Brand New, but they certainly have some talent. An American band that has established themselves in the indie scene across the world with 2 EPs released so far; I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child and Let My Pride Be What’s Left Behind. Pay attention to the piano inclusion in each of their songs, and their grunge influenced, tension-y lyrics and stay mindful of some Pompeii and The New Frontiers comparisons.

Listen To More… Telepathe

By Sam Bathe on 20 May 2009

Electro-pop in the UK is shaping up to be Little Boots and La Roux’s year but Brooklyn duo Telepathe might just prove to be the surprise success that break into the mainstream. Releasing their fantastic debut album ‘Dance Mother’ back in January, their style is reminiscent of the aforementioned, La Roux, but with the vocals tamed a little, in a good way. Show the rest of this post…

Their music sounds effortlessly cool in a way only sultry electro can. Cultured by TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, producer of ‘Dance Mother’, ‘So Fine’ would have slotted perfectly on Yeah Yeah Yeah’s recent album, ‘In Your Line’ is the subtle seduction while ‘Chrome’s On It’ showcases their jolting abrasive side when it counts.

Don’t be confused with other scene bands pushing their style over their substance. Telepathe have both, but it’s the duo’s music that steals the show.

Listen To More… Hockey

By Sam Bathe on 13 May 2009

Recently embarking on a vast tour with perfect fit Friendly Fires, Hockey’s lo-fi electronica harbours the song make-up of rock music to mix genre’s with ease. Their early releases created a tidal wave of hype, and after breakthrough performances at SXSW and recently Camden Crawl, are taking their fame out of America and across the world. New single ‘Too Fake’ is their best track to date, but there’s a lot more to come when their album hits later this year.

Listen To More… Delta Spirit

By Sam Bathe on 29 Apr 2009

By now, Delta Spirit shouldn’t need an introduction. They graced our cover for issue 19, we’ve interviewed them a couple of time, and they’re one of the major buzz bands in America right now, and don’t expect that to end any time soon.

After jetting back to the States following a hugely successful European tour, the LA quintet had planned to take a few weeks off, write a new album, and return to the road in the fall after a few festival appearances. But the lie-ins are going to have to wait or the moment. Signed on to support The Shins for their upcoming North American tour, starting this Saturday, including huge, already sold out shows at the likes of Terminal 5, NYC. Following the success debut album ‘Ode To Sunshine’, the band have also been hard at work in front of the camera, and recently completed the video for ‘People C’Mon’. And it’s amazing.
