The Shins have been rather quiet since their brilliant third album ‘Wincing the Night Away’ back in 2007. A potential reason for this hiatus became apparent in September of this year when news broke that chief song writer James Russell Mercer of was forming a new band with super producer Brian Burton aka Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley).
As Pitchfork explain:
“To be clear, this is not just a “produced by Danger Mouse” one-off thing. Mercer and the Mouse are apparently in it for the long haul and already have plans extending past their first album”.
The duo will be known as ‘Broken Bells’ and those aforementioned first album plans are that it is to be realeased early next year on Columbia. However, for those of you, like me, who can’t wait that long, here’s a sneaky preview track which has surfaced online this week. Enjoy!
