Leaving Wieden + Kennedy to form their own design consultancy firm, Central Office, Megan McGinley and Max Erdenberger’s first product is a modular shelving unit, called Wahlr. Using a universal pegwall system, you simply slot in a peg where you want a boxes, shelf or hooks, allowing for an unlimited number of combinations on the two-panel backboard. Hopefully with more extras to come in the future, each system is handmade in the US and available from the Central Office online store for $2,500: http://centralofficeco.info/shop

Legendary designer Aaron Draplin took on Lynda’s Logo Design Challenge; to design a logo for fictional ‘All Base’ cement company in just 15 minutes. Walking through his process, Draplin is a big advocate of putting pen to paper – or pen to his co-founded Field Notes notebooks – and it’s fascinating to watch as he goes from initial ideas to honing in on a concept. The video will make you think you can design 100 logos a day, and while it’s not quite this easy for 99.9% of designers, it helps to instil a thought process that you can implement on whatever type of project you’re working on. Check out more of Draplin’s design work on his never-ending portfolio: www.draplin.com

Pin-pointing the shape, size and contours of the model’s face, plus tiny dots to aid the camera, Nobumichi Asai’s remarkable project maps and projects in real-time onto her face. Using incredibly precise light projects, Nobumichi is able to digitally alter the model’s face as she moves around in the 3D space, a first for such complexity while using this technique. Famed for his work on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I’m Still Here and The Social Network, graphic designer Neil Kellerhouse was asked by director Jonathan Glazer to do the advertising for his wonderfully intrusive thriller, Under The Skin. Wanting to do something “more than just a pretty picture”, Kellerhouse wasn’t afraid to fail a lot before they finally settled on the finished design and here talks through his design process to get to that point. Under The Skin is available for download now and to buy on Blu-ray and DVD from July 14th.

Hard Graft’s Camera Strap holsters your new camera in style

By Sam Bathe on 27 Dec 2013

A decent dSLR will set you back a fair whack (or might have been a fantastic Christmas present) but the accessories in the box always cheapen the experience. Hard Graft products might be a bit of an investment themselves but for the aesthetic value alone they’re certainly worth it. Their Camera Strap will fit most SLR cameras – attaching with smart metal buckles – and is a sumptuous pairing of vegetable-tanned premium Italian leather and rich wool felt. Handmade in Italy, you definitely pay a premium at £106, but just look at it, the strap’s beautiful. Available from the Hard Graft webstore: http://www.hardgraft.com/collections/all/products/hangcamerastrap-heritage
