This is amazing news to say the least. This post could simply be “Hell, yes!” and it would be enough. Although wait, it get’s better. The first project will be Ninokuni, and joint production with Level-5. Now, Level-5 might not jog your memory straight away, but in the FAN THE FIRE office, they’re a very big deal. Making one of our top 5 games of all time, Dark Chronicle, and the critically-acclaimed Professor Layton series, amongst many other titles, put it this way, they’ve got calibre. So what of the collaboration? There’s little doubt it’ll be a hit, and not much less doubt that it’ll be fantastic.

Ninokuni stars kid named Oliver, styled in the dreamy Ghibli animation you’d expect and comes with a 352-page book of magic spells to help Oliver on a mission to bring his dead mother back to life. All we need is for Ghibli to work with LucasArts and Team ICO with next and our dreams would be complete.

The game will be out in Japan late 2010 on Nintendo DS, and 2011 on PS3. Sadly no dates for the rest of the world just yet, but don’t worry, it’s on the way.

FAN THE FIRE is a digital magazine about lifestyle and creative culture. Launching back in 2005 as a digital publication about Sony’s PSP handheld games console, we’ve grown and evolved now covering the arts and lifestyle, architecture, design and travel.
