The debut from writer-director Gia Coppola, Palo Alto follows a bunch of high school teenagers in the throngs of adolescence. Starring Emma Roberts in the lead, the film is based on James Franco’s collection of short stories of the same name and Franco also stars as Roberts’ teacher. Not before long, the lines of parent and teacher become blurred as Coppola’s cast go out of their way to find trouble. Though the parallels to Franco’s real-life Instagram scandal are uncomfortable, Palo Alto got stellar reviews out of Telluride, Venice and Tribeca film festivals and hits theatres across the US tomorrow.
