Those of us who enjoyed the sight of Guillermo del Toro’s Kaiju smashing up cities in Pacific Rim have further reason to be excited in 2014, as Gareth Edwards’ (Monsters) Godzilla reboot lumbers its way into cinemas. The first teaser poster for the film, created by Mondo and shown above, has been released in advance of San Diego Comic Con.

Quite why we’re seeing a revisiting of giant monster cinema now is unclear, but there are reasons to be excited about this new take on Tokyo’s reptilian nemesis. Not least of which is the cast, which includes Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche. The last time we saw Godzilla on the big screen was 1998’s Roland Emmerich version, which turned a decent profit but wasn’t particularly successful in terms of critical response. Coming off the low budget Monsters, we’re looking forward to seeing what Edwards can do with a vastly scaled-up production.
