Alex Proyas’ (I, Robot, Knowing) upcoming project Dracula Year Zero has its lead in place, and it’s Avatar’s Sam Worthington (pictured above in Clash of the Titans), currently Hollywood’s go-to man for almost everything, it seems. Planned as a new take on the titular vampire’s origin (there’s that word again) the film is hoping to establish a new mythos and bloodsucking intrigue amongst the countless vampire cash-ins currently out or slated for release.
Proyas is a director who, it would be fair to say, hasn’t always matched the potential that he seems to possess. His most recent effort, Knowing, for example, collapsed somewhat after a promising setup. Aside from Worthington’s role as Prince Vlad, not much is known yet about Proyas’ latest, though hopefully it will bring something new and interesting to the cinematic vampire canon.
