300 Prequel ‘Xerxes’ Offered To Guy Ritchie

Brit director Guy Ritchie (pictured above at a screening of Rock N’ Rolla (probably)) has reportedly been offered the forthcoming prequel to Zack Synder’s 2007 flick 300. Ritchie is currently finishing up the sequel to Sherlock Holmes – which was also recently revealed to be subtitled, A Game of Shadows.

Against predictions, Sherlock Holmes actually provided a welcome opportunity for Ritchie to move outside his comfort zone (generally, gangsters) and ended up being pretty decent. That said, do we need more 300? It’s again based on a Frank Miller comic, which hopefully will provide some quality, but the prospect of a prequel is hardly mouth-watering. We should stress that Ritchie has not actually taken the job yet, but if he did, hopefully his semi-revitalisation would continue and imbue something new into the project.

For one thing the art style would have to change, at least partially, from that of the first film. Do we really want another 2 hours of those orange backgrounds? Also, will Ritchie be able to keep his fingers away from that ever-so-tempting slow-mo button? Only time will tell.
