Film Review: Seeking A Friend For The End Of The WorldFan The Fire Recommends

Another predictable downbeat performance from Steve Carell, but with inward-bound asteroid about to wipe out planet Earth, perhaps this time you can forgive his sullen persona. But after finding a friend in Penny (Knightly), things are starting to look up as he and his narcoleptic neighbour head out on the road to track down his high school sweetheart, and put Penny on a plane back to her family in the UK.

Though it takes the film a little while to get beyond the obligatory apocalypse-driven jokes at the start, Dodge’s wallowing just about skates the line of becoming annoying, it ends though, as a heartf elt romantic-comedy that turns a predictable story into a genuinely enjoyable adventure. There’s a dog too that pushes last year’s terrier in Beginners’ for his cuteness money.
