With a title like Cockneys Vs. Zombies, you know what you’re getting before you walk into the theatre. Obviously a battle between cockneys and zombie, but also a stereotypical horror-comedy, likely devout of imagination or inspiration and simply retreading the ground we’ve seen countless times since Shaun Of The Dead gave birth to the genre back in 2004.
With a zombie outbreak spreading across East London after an ancient burial ground is disturbed, a rag-tag team of family and friends are left to fight for their lives as they try to escape to safer grounds.
There are complexities to the story, but really they don’t matter, this is unfortunately a lazy and flat debut for director Matthias Hoene, while writers James Moran and Lucas Roche don’t cover themselves in glory either. Starring famous East End faces, the likes of Alan Ford are meant to bring a grit and X factor to the film but their catchphrases are nothing more than a cliché. The low budget really shows in the frequent CGI too.
