It’s highly recommended.
Scientists talk of dinosaurs having brains the size of a peanut but in Aardman’s new short directed by Peter Peake, Pythagasaurus follows one dino who’s particularly good at maths. A great production from the respected studio.
Betting friend, and fellow director, Errol Morris that he’d eat his own shoe if Morris finished a movie on pet cemeteries, upon completion of Gates Of Heaven, iconic filmmaker set about his forfeit. The young Herzog boiled the shoe for fives hours with garlic, herbs and stock before gobbling down all but the sole, and discussing film, art and life in the process. What a remarkable man and amazing film, directed by Les Blank back in the late 1970s.
The graduation movie for directors Anaëlle Moreau, Thomas Poulain, Nicolas Fuminier and Clément Bigo, better known as Studio Kippik, Au Loin is gloriously technicolour, and while the dialogue is in French, it’s easy to follow.
Wonderful short film by Sean Pecknold about a forgotten robot longing for a change. Produced for the Unified Field Collective bi-annual, following their theme of “Transitions”. We’re really looking forward to seeing more of it.
Directed and animated by Jan-Joost Verhoef, Plunge is his graduation animated short film and was nominated for the Academic Achievement Award at ArtEZ Zwolle. The film “has a loose narrative, almost sequential, encouraging the viewer to construct their own theories, while retaining a unity in theme and atmosphere.” Pretty amazing stuff.
Quickly gathering a lot of buzz online, Rosa is “an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared”, and sure to make a name for young filmmaker Jesús Orellana given the film’s budget of just $100 and a year of hard work. A live action feature is already in the work. Watch this space.
The debut from music video director Ryan Hope, Skin explores the boundaries of art and the human body, with contributions from Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Raymond Pettibon. Private screenings in progress, release TBC.
