Romantic drama that follows an evening of temptation for both in a seemingly happy relationship. Joanna and Michael spent the night apart, him on a business trip with flirtatious colleague Laura and her with a lost but not forgotten love after randomly bumping into a figure from per past in Alex. The story is intriguing, and the acting talent fairly strong, but Last Night doesn’t have the bite it really needs, or the sensuality to fulfill the romantic aspects of the story.

Though his reputation might be waning of late, John Carpenter (Halloween et al) returns behind the camera as the institutionalised Kristen is terrorised by a ghost, despite great promise, however, The Ward proves very tame. The set-up is all there but the end result lacks conviction and The Ward doesn’t feel rough and ready in the right sort of ways Carpenter has gotten way with in the past, instead, the tone is just low-budget, and all sadly avoidable.

An adaptation of the eponymous comic play, Potiche, so delightfully set in 1977, as trophy wife Suzanne Pujol steps in the run her husband’s umbrella factory after the workers rebel against their manager, taking him hostage. After Robert Pujol returns from a relaxing cruise however, to run the factory once more, matters soon grow complicated as the surprisingly adept Suzanne wishes to carry on. A charming and quirky comedy, with snappy dialogue and a witty satire tone.

Eye opening documentary about the balance of global financial and political power and China’s dominance over trades, labour and industry in Zambia is exposed. It might not have the glamour of a Morgan Spurlock documentary or The Corporation but When China Met Africa is still a quietly revealing and and powerful movie that will hopefully turn a few blind eyes back onto some of the major issues we face in this world.

That Senna ends in tragedy will be no surprise to those already aware of his story. Nevertheless, it does so in a manner that will be deeply shocking and emotional for both the initiated and the unaware. It is a testament to a film that manages to create thrilling, poignant drama from known history, and if Senna makes the heart beat fast before breaking it, it is all the more wonderful for that. A must watch, even for non-racing fans.

High concept thriller as a man repeats the same eight minute over and over again in an attempt to foil a terrorist from blowing up a packed commuter train. Duncan Jones has done nothing to suggest that his successful debut was a one-off. This is more mainstream, granted, but it still has ideas and isn’t afraid to explore them. The bloated ending tries to give more than it has, but this film in general is deserving of credit.
